Jenya Kazbekova on Instagram: "Hello everyone! I am writing this official statement, as I just got the latest news that IOC (International Olympic Committee) recommends allowing russian and belarusian athletes to compete under a neutral flag at the International competitions. (You can find their statement at the link in my bio). It was always very clear that Ukraine was going to boycott the Paris Olympics 2024 if russian and belarusian athletes would be allowed to compete. What many people don't know is that it affects ALL international competitions leading up to the Olympics. The Ukrainian government together with the NOCU (National Olympic Committee of Ukraine) released a statement that if russian and belarusian athletes were to return to international competitions, no Ukrainian athletes would attend or compete at the same events. In other words, me, my teammates and all other Ukrainian athletes are going to lose their chance to compete at the World Cups, World Championships and we would lose our chance to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. This is a personal and national tragedy for me. To me, sport was the only thing that kept me sane, that gave me a chance to represent my country, to show people how strong and resilient people from Ukraine can be, to make a difference in this unjust war… The news from the IOC is profoundly devastating to me. Now it is fully up to International Federations and, in the case of climbing, the IFSC, to make a decision on the matter and decide the destiny of Ukrainian athletes. The IFSC will have a general assembly in Singapore in the next few days, where they will take a vote on this issue. A month ago, I gave a statement as part of the athletes commission and for the IFSC, including IFSC president Marco Scolaris. I stand by my statement and it is important to go public with it so the whole climbing community is aware of what is going on and how it impacts Ukrainian athletes. (You can read my statement in the carousel of this post). I sincerely hope that @ifsclimbing is going to keep showing Ukraine support and solidarity, as we need it now more than ever. #standwithukraine #stopthewar More in comments⤵️"
